PROGRAM  two family house – accessible ground floor unit with three bedrooms, rentable tenant unit with one bedroom

In our proposal, we developed a coupling mechanism that allows for dynamic cohabitation between the owner and the tenant. The shell is systematic; it responds to the local context and utilizes standardized SIP panels. The internal armature adapts a conventional balloon framing structure and contains the needs of both the owner and tenant. It is made of multiple layers, adaptable and flexible per site condition and needs of the occupant. In this framework, plug-in furniture allows for labor to be distributed across the team of interns for greater detailing through the span of construction. Both systems are replicable and have possibilities beyond this site while also interacting on the human scale to sponsor dynamic cohabitation.
